Decking has been popularised because it is perceived as a low maintenance alternative to a traditional garden laid to lawn. The problems occur when it is left too long in sunlight without re-oiling, as the colour can fade rapidly. The wood can also quickly attract moss, algae and other forms of surface growth if it remains damp over a period of time. The decking can then become very sippery and potentially dangerous if this problem is not rectified.
